MOTÖRHEAD ![]()
As Andy Colquhoun put it, all of the real drumming on Pick up the Phone, America! (except for “Runnin’ Outta Road”) was handled by Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor, the long-time drummer for the hard rock band Motörhead. (August 2011) * * * That is not how everyone does it though, and a lot of people apparently like that sort of thing, since they are everywhere on the Internet. The most prominent post on Phil and the Frantics is a really snide piece by Mark Prindle from www.markprindle.com entitled “Frantically Ripping Off Everybody They Can”. The article names their front man Phil “Philthy Animal” Kelsey. (“Philthy Animal” is a real person by the way; that is the nickname of Phil Taylor, the longtime drummer for the British hard rock band Motörhead that also features Lemmy). (August 2012) * * * Sam Gopal formed a new line-up known simply as Sam Gopal that included as vocalist and guitarist Ian Willis, better known as Lemmy; this reorganized band released one album, Escalator in 1968. Lemmy later played bass guitar for Hawkwind and, in 1975, founded the pounding British heavy metal band called Motörhead.
