WOOLY BULLY Â "Wooly Bully" Â is a popular song originally recorded by novelty rock 'n' roll band Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs in 1965. Â Based on a standard 12-bar blues progression, it was written by the band's leader, Domingo "Sam" Samudio. Â It was released as a single on the Memphis-based Pen label and distributed via MGM. Â The song was recorded at Sam Phillips Recording studios at 639 Madison Avenue in Memphis, the successor to Phillips' original Sun Studios. Â It proved to be the only recording made at the studio to achieve national success. Â (More from Wikipedia) Â
Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs had a big hit in 1965 with "Wooly Bully". The song is about lead singer Domingo Samudio's cat; I was 14 when the song came out, and there was a rumor among the kids I hung out with that a "wooly bully" was a vagina.    (December 2012)  |
