About "The Pantheon"  In order to have some sense of order, I have broken down my topics into five categories, though I have generally refrained from breaking them down further. For example, all of the Beatles' songs and albums and bandmembers are included in the "Highly Appreciated" category; because she recorded so much music with John Lennon, Yoko Ono also makes the cut.  I have tried to avoid my own prejudices but probably haven't done so in every case. Not everyone that I discuss is a rock musician or band of course.  Stories are longer pieces about a particular topic, while Items are usually just a sentence or two; the Items are grouped together, with the Stories each having their own page. There are no more Mentions or long lists going forward; everything is going to have its own page. I have several hundred of them already.  The Under Appreciated are the easiest to categorize: I have used my original criterion for selecting Under Appreciated Rock Bands and Under Appreciated Rock Artists, which is simply that there is no article about them in Wikipedia (specifically, the English language version), or at least that there wasn't an article when I wrote the original post in Facebook.  The Barely Appreciated are rock bands and artists that are approximately as obscure as the Under Appreciated, except that they do have an article in Wikipedia.  The Somewhat Appreciated is the great middle where the bulk of musicians are placed. These bands and artists would typically have a fairly well known hit song and probably several albums as well.  The Greatly Appreciated category is for bands and artists that most rock music fans would readily identify.  The Highly Appreciated is fairly narrow and has been reserved for musicians who are acknowledged to be the greatest or at least the best known in history.  The four categories on the bottom line are, respectively, for multiple-artist endeavors like Broadway shows and movie soundtracks; record labels; publications from books to magazines to newspapers; and a final miscellaneous category.    |
