Beserkley Records  was an American independent record label based in Berkeley, California, from 1973 to 1984.  Beserkley is usually regarded as a power pop and rock and roll label.  During the 1970s, the label released albums by Earth Quake, Greg Kihn, Jonathan Richman, and the Modern Lovers, the Rubinoos, and the Tyla Gang.  Several other artists appeared on singles, or on compilation albums.  From 1980 to its dissolution in 1984, Beserkley was a one-artist label, the artist being Greg Kihn.  (More from Wikipedia)
 
 

John Cale has also had an important impact on music following his time with the Velvet Underground, though mostly behind the scenes.  John Cale produced several proto-punk albums, including the first album by the Stooges, The Stooges (1969), and the first album by the Modern Lovers that Reprise Records refused to release; it was later released on Beserkley Records.

Getting their unique sound on record proved to be difficult, however, with John Cale, Kim Fowley and Allan Mason trying in various sessions to get some usable songs on tape in the early 1970’s. No recordings had been released until after the Modern Lovers broke up in December 1973; by the time Beserkley Records put out an album of their early recordings called simply The Modern Lovers (1976), Jonathan Richman had softened his sound and assembled a different band with a different style called Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers. Their debut album, Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers came out in the same year on the same label, so it is not surprising that the original proto-punk band has largely dropped from sight.
