YOU WERE MEANT FOR ME Â "You Were Meant for Me" Â is a folk pop song written by Jewel and Steve Poltz and performed by Jewel on her first album, Pieces of You. Â It relates the singer's incomprehension of a failed relationship, and her inadequate attempts at moving on with her life. Â It was the second single from that album and went on to receive a great deal of recognition. Â It became a hit and reached #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for 2 weeks and went to #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart for a single week. Â "Foolish Games" / "You Were Meant For Me" ranked at number 15 on Billboard's All Time Top 100 in 2008. Â The song was also re-recorded for Jewel's Greatest Hits album with backing vocals from the country trio Pistol Annies. Â (More from Wikipedia) Â
Jewel (full name:  Jewel Kilcher) is a contemporary folksinger who had a roughshod upbringing in Homer, Alaska.  She was just 21 when her debut album Pieces of You was released, spawning three popular singles:   "Who Will Save Your Soul", "You Were Meant for Me", and "Foolish Games".  While not an immediate success, Jewel toured constantly, and Atlantic Records pushed the album in all quarters; it eventually became one of the best-selling debut albums of all time, selling 12 million copies in the US alone.   (November 2014)  |
